Greetings, comrades!
Today, we will talk about something that images can’t show: sound.
We have previously demonstrated various gunfire effects in the "Korea" project, but today, we will discuss what players hear almost non-stop in a flight simulator: the sound of aircraft engines. This topic is extremely important, so we pay maximum attention to it and study countless references. Fortunately, there are many combat airplanes from those years with restored engines, thanks to enthusiasts. This gives us good source data for creating a great acoustic picture.
As examples, in the video, you will hear the piston and jet engines of the F-51D Mustang and the F-80C-10 Shooting Star, respectively, using the Packard 1650−7 Merlin and the Allison J33-A-23. You will hear the characteristic sounds of these airplanes, and each sound corresponds to a specific process in the powerplant. We don’t just add these sounds to make the audio diverse; we link them to the corresponding processes in the physical model of the engine.
