Group — attention!

For a military pilot, it is not only the aircraft and the cockpit where he spends the most exciting and dangerous hours of his life that are important, but also his equipment. Since in the Korea. IL2 series project, you’ll be able to see your body in the cockpit, today, we’ll take a closer look at the flight gear of another pilot, namely a United States naval aviator, outfitted in seasonal clothing.

The practice of creating 3D models in the game industry is such that it is more efficient to first create a fully detailed, high-poly 3D sculpture using modern tools and reproducing the tiniest details, and then "bake" these details into normal map and shadow map textures that are later applied to the optimized model with a reduced number of polygons that can be used in a real-time renderer. In this way, a very high level of detail and quality of model texturing is achieved, unattainable with the old methods of simply drawing textures in a graphics editor. Pilot models are also subject to this production method — in front of you is a high-poly 3D model that we’ll use to describe the outfit of our hero of the day.
The pilot’s outfit consists of a flight suit, jacket, life vest, the parachute suspension system, boots, gloves, helmet, goggles and mask. Let’s start with the flight suit — it is the Z-2 model with built-in G-suit pants (on the left side of the pilot you can see the dangling hose that should be connected to the onboard part of the overload system). Insulated and with fur collar, the G-1 aviation jacket is a dream for any aviation enthusiast!
Here you can see the hose with an adapter for connection to the onboard oxygen system: this adapter has an angled connection for the emergency oxygen cylinder for leaving the aircraft at high altitude, which was rarely used in naval aviation and therefore is not visible on the model.

The S-Type suspension system was an analog of the Army’s AN-6510. A large package consisting of a seat, folded boat and folded parachute can be seen behind the pilot. The trapezoidal parachute activation handle is located on the pilot’s left side.

You can also see B-3 leather gloves and N-1 leather half-boots.
A Mk 2 life vest is worn over the jacket, with a USN Survival Lamp attached under the collar on the right side of the pilot and a Dye Marker packet visible underneath it. A survival knife "Western" is attached to the left side of the vest with a Shark Chaser chemical packet underneath.
USN Goggles with replaceable glass (transparent or sunscreen) are an analog of the Army’s model B-8. MS-22 001 Oxygen Mask has a built-in microphone.

The H-3 helmet has the headset mic folded up: it was used when the oxygen mask with built-in microphone was removed. The helmet dome is fiberglass, which allowed pilots to paint it with various individual colors or entire livery. Would you like to personalize your helmet in some way?

There’s more to come! Stay tuned!
