Dev Blog #23
Hello everyone!

We continue to show the development of the aircraft cockpits in the Korea. IL-2 series project. Today it is the La-11 fighter. It was a post-war Soviet fighter, the last generation of piston-engine fighters before the jet era, which means maximum flight characteristics and combat capabilities for this design. Since the plane was created after the difficult years of the Great Patriotic War, the change from the war economy is obvious: its cockpit has much more sophisticated instrumentation, reflecting the latest achievements of those years.
The gyroscopic dual-lens sight ASP-1 is a clone of the British Mk.IId. ARK-5 radio compass. The blind landing system includes a radio marker receiver, a radio altimeter, and the aforementioned radio compass. The aircraft can be equipped with the AGK-47B artificial horizon, which allows piloting in bad weather conditions. The second control panel with levers under the pilot’s right hand attracts attention — this is not the second engine control, of course, but the control of a de-icing device (a gasoline heater in the wing), the canopy louver handle, as well as the controls of the camera hatch — the aircraft had a special camera slot for aerial reconnaissance. Also noteworthy is the R-1's control stick, similar to those of the MiG-15 and Yak-9 — it is a clone of the German KG-12 with an additional wheel brake lever. One can also not miss the presence of armrests on the pilot’s seat — this detail appeared on Lavochkin’s aircraft precisely on the La-11. In the upper left corner of the instrument panel, there is a handle for the windshield washer.
Below the gunsight, you can see three small levers for the pneumatic reloading of the three cannons. And these are not 20 mm ShVAKs, but three 23 mm Nudelman-Suranov NS-23 cannons. Of course, such a powerful battery has one drawback — they have only 75 rounds per gun. With such a limited ammunition supply, keeping track of the remaining ammunition is critical, so two ammunition counters are installed at the bottom left above the left console. One of them shows the remaining ammo for one cannon, while the other one shows the remaining ammo for the other two cannons.

All in all, the La-11 is a very interesting fighter in terms of instrumentation. Please stay tuned to our developer blog — in the future, we will show you the cockpit in its final textured form, as well as the aircraft as a whole.

Also, if you are flying in our IL-2 Great Battles simulator, today is the first round of the online duel tournament — you can connect as a spectator to one of the duel servers visible in the game server list (coop mode, not dogfight). The organization of the fights and communication between the participants will take place on the official IL2 TeamSpeak server (address 65.108.206.8 password for login il2series). The remaining batch of flights will take place from 19 — 21 GMT (11 am — 1 pm PST). The tournament table for the first stage is here: https://tinyurl.com/562v5afc
