Dev Blog #20
Hello everybody!

Continuing the theme of Dev Brief #17, where we discussed the big birds of the new project, today’s Dev Blog shows detailed screenshots of the C-47B Skytrain and Li-2T transport planes.
The models of these AI-controlled transport planes are ready and the work on their physical model will start this summer, although they are already working in the project, as you can see. The addition of the two AI-controlled transport planes greatly expands the variety of combat missions available to players.
We already had models of them in Great Battles (though with different modifications) — of course we took the opportunity to add them to Korea as well. Direct transfer of 3D models and physics from Great Battles to Korea project is impossible (we talked about the reasons in Dev Brief videos earlier), and more than half of the work has to be done anew. On the other hand, the visual quality and fidelity of the aircraft physics and damage modeling will be greatly improved.
Due to the specific shape of the landing gear tires of these aircraft, the screenshots where the aircraft is on the ground clearly show another feature of the new project — tire deformation under load. We first developed this feature for the anti-aircraft truck from the Tank Crew project, and now we are applying it to aircraft. It may seem like an insignificant detail, but in close-ups of an aircraft standing or moving on the ground, it significantly improves the look and overall perception of what is happening. By the way, in addition to deformation under load, we will also be modeling tire bursting as a result of weapon fire or overloading, but those screenshots will be ready later.
In addition to the transport planes, today we would like to show you some more pictures of the development progress. This is a finished high-poly model of an American jet pilot in summer outfit, the current state of the model and textures of the Soviet IL-10 attack plane (we will dedicate a separate dev blog to it), and the American 120 mm M1 antiaircraft gun. This gun, as well as all the artillery in the Korea project, can be deployed in a combat position and stowed for towing by one of the available trucks, which greatly expands the variety of transport columns in missions.
Today we also released the 18th Dev Brief video, in which we answer your questions about the project’s large aircraft.
Please stay tuned — there will be many more interesting details on the development of Korea. IL-2 Series project! Отредактировано
